Josip Petric · Požega, Croatia

iOS developer
& indie builder

Fourteen years as a software engineer, eleven of them shipping for Apple platforms: satellite AR tools, banking, pharmacy, video, and Philips IoT used by tens of thousands. Evenings are for my own apps. Seven shipped so far.

The apps

One developer, from idea to App Store

Four live on the App Store right now. Three retired veterans below.

Remember what you read

App Store ↗

You read the book. Two months later it's gone. Kern turns any finished book into key-idea cards in seconds, then brings them back with spaced repetition until they stay. The Wall shows every book you've read, and fades them as your memory would.

  • Add a book by title, get idea cards in seconds
  • Daily reviews that take minutes, not hours
  • Works offline · no account needed

Survival diary: narrative choices in collapse

App Store ↗

"You don't die from one bad decision. You die from who you slowly become." A swipe-driven survival diary set after the collapse. Four needs on screen (food, shelter, mind, body) and five personality axes shifting invisibly underneath. 200+ cards, branching paths with locked consequences, and endings decided by who you became along the way.

  • Every choice costs something
  • Hidden axes: compassion, recklessness, isolation, preparedness, hope
  • No ads, no timers, first run free

Have the hard conversation

App Store ↗

There's a conversation you've been avoiding. This app walks you to it: name it, face what you're afraid of, decide what actually needs to be said, put it on the calendar, follow through. Linear by design. You use it once, you have the conversation, you're done.

  • A deliberate, step-by-step path, not another daily habit app
  • Collects no data at all
  • One-time purchase, no subscription

Calm bedtime ritual & stories

App Store ↗

A calm bedtime ritual for families. A structured wind-down, personalized stories where your child is the hero, and quiet prompts to talk about the day before the lights go out. Built by a parent who knows exactly how 8 p.m. feels.

  • Stories from 5 to 20 minutes, kids make the choices
  • Connection prompts to end the day together
  • Works across your devices

Earlier work

Retired, not forgotten

Off the store now, but each one taught me something I still use.

Comic Battle

Real-time PvP, comic-strip endings

Intergalactic gladiators, simultaneous 20-second turns, 60+ abilities, and every battle ended as a comic strip you could share. Debut game of our three-person Croatian indie team. I built the entire iOS app in Objective-C with cocos2d, including a custom TCP networking layer for the real-time multiplayer, written from scratch.

Define It!

A minimalistic vocabulary builder

Type, scan or speak a word to define it and save it, then make it stick with short word games. Spaced learning before I knew to call it that.

About

Started with satellites. Stayed for the craft.

I started in 2011 writing Java for the satellite industry, then taught myself iOS and Android because my team needed someone who could. Four years later I was leading the mobile team. Since then it's been banking, pharmacy, travel, video editing, EV leasing, and IoT. Seven of those years I worked fully remote through Toptal, across twelve projects.

These days I work as a senior iOS developer on IoT products by day, smart smoke detectors and automatic gear shifting for e-bikes among them, and ship my own apps at night from Požega, Croatia. I care about code that survives the person who wrote it: SOLID, tested, reviewed. And about shipping, because an app that never ships teaches you nothing.

Experience

Where the fourteen years went

2023 - now

Senior iOS Developer · Ignit Group

Senior iOS developer on IoT products: smart smoke detectors, automatic gear shifting for e-bikes, and more. Earlier, led iOS on the Philips Home Safety app, with secure real-time camera streaming, two-way communication and alerts for tens of thousands of users, plus the Philips Pet Series app. I own the CI pipeline and keep the codebase honest through reviews.

2016 - 2023

Senior iOS Developer · Toptal (remote freelance, 12 projects)

  • Ferry Automotive: electric-vehicle leasing app with ID validation, credit checks, payments and contract signing, plus a CI pipeline that saved 30 minutes a day
  • Cogni: banking app where I was promoted to lead a team of 4 devs and a QA, drove a redesign of ~200 screens, shipped subscriptions, lending, rewards and cash-back
  • Yonder: iPad document reader for airlines with offline access, 10× faster data loading and a Couchbase Lite sync workaround
  • GuestLogix: Swift SDK used by airline companies, and the white-label app built on it
  • NimbleRx: pharmacy suite of 3 apps for prescription refills, tracking and payments
  • OverUnder: sports-predictions app with cash prizes, live in-app chat with real-time event updates and personalized push notifications
  • AdForPrize: multi-clip video editor with soundtracks and GIFs between clips, fixed 30+ crashes and memory leaks
  • Proballers: basketball social network built from scratch and on the App Store in six weeks
2011 - 2015

Software Engineer → Lead Mobile Developer · Amphinicy Technologies

Java for the satellite industry, then self-taught mobile. Built and maintained 4 iOS and 4 Android apps, including an AR satellite-antenna alignment tool used by disaster-relief field operatives. That one made me solve gimbal lock the hard way, in Objective-C, because "close enough" meant a lost comms link.

2006 - 2011

University of Zagreb

M.Sc. Software Engineering and Information Systems · B.Sc. Computer Science
